Tenuta Casteani is a winery situated in the hills of Maremma, Tuscany. Established in 2002 under the guidance of Mario Pelosi, the founder and CEO of the company, it now exports wines worldwide. The winery primarily focuses on indigenous Maremma grape varieties, such as Vermentino and Sangiovese, along with Syrah in amphora.
Vermentino is a white grape variety widely grown in Italy, particularly in regions such as Sardinia, Liguria, and Tuscany. It is also found in other Mediterranean countries like France (where it is known as Rolle) and Spain. It’s known for producing wines with refreshing acidity and bright fruit flavours.
Vermentino wines often exhibit citrusy notes like lemon, lime, and grapefruit, as well as hints of tropical fruits like pineapple and passion fruit. Some Vermentino wines may also have herbal or floral aromas.
On the palate, the wines typically offer a crisp and lively character with a pleasant minerality. The fruit flavours are balanced with a zesty acidity, making it a great choice for warm weather and pairing with various dishes.
It pairs well with a variety of foods, making it a versatile wine. It complements seafood, shellfish, and light pasta dishes wonderfully. Its bright acidity also goes well with salads, vegetable-based dishes, and grilled poultry.
