Tempranillo Rioja Makal White 2021- Bodegas D.Mateos
£11.90
Straw yellow with greenish reflections; clean and brilliant.
Fresh and intense. Hints of stone fruits (nectarine, white and flat peach), combined with citrus aromas (lemon and grapefruit) and a balsamic background with reminiscences of basil.
Fresh, with predominance of citrus notes and stone fruits, causing a very pleasant acidity-sweetness sensation. Long end caused by some very elegant bitter notes.

With a family tradition of growing and making wine that dates back hundreds of years, Bodegas D. Mateos is one of the latest rediscoveries in Rioja, embodying the true character of this region in its wines. Mateo Ruiz, who has been heading up this project since the winery was constructed in the year 2000, amazes and offers great wines with their own distinctive personality and character, with Rioja Baja and Aldeanueva de Ebro as the hallmarks of their identity.
Tempranillo
Spain’s top red wine, made famous by Rioja, region in North-Central, what many consider to be one of the world’s benchmark areas for Tempranillo, where wines are classified, in part, by how long they age in oak. What’s amazing, is a well-made Tempranillo ages for over 20 years tremendously well.
There is a very rare white mutation called Tempranillo Blanco.
Beyond Spain and Portugal, it is hard to find. It’s planted sparsely in Argentina, Southern France, Italy, Australia, the United States, and Mexico. Tempranillo vineyards enjoy sunny climates in elevated, protected, mountainous valley regions.
Bolder and aged it’s pair nicely with steak, gourmet burgers and rack of lamb. Fresher styles match well with baked pasta and other tomato-based dishes.
