Victor Pino Torche, the first gentleman in our story was not born into a traditional Chilean wine family. The family worked in mining administration and the farm was a retreat for summers in San Juan de Pirque. San Juan was not “wine country”, but rather simply a small hamlet on the banks of the Maipo River, perched high up where the Maipo Valley narrows and climbs into the Cajon del Maipo, flanked on both sides by large rock faces of the Andes.
Today, William Fevre’s vineyards are located in two extreme terroirs: one in the Andes Mountains, high in the Maipo Valley, and the other in the extreme South of Chile, in the volcanic lands of the Malleco Valley.

Pinot Noir

Chilean Pinot Noir offers plush flavors of black cherry, plums, subtle allspice (sometimes verging on beef bouillon), and floral aromas of bergamot, with a creamy, spiced finish. Pinot Noir from Chile is often round and smooth with low tannin.
They say that everywhere Chardonnay grows, it also makes great Pinot Noir, and Chile is no exception.
Pinot Noirs from Malleco Valley are more delicate and floral. The wine industry here is still in its embryonic stages, and there is less than 40 hectares (100 acres) under vine here.
For a Pinot fanatic, this up-and-coming region is worth a try.
