We love Lacrima di Morro d’Alba because it’s the wine I grew up with, the one I always saw on the table at lunch and dinner, especially on Sundays at my grandparents’ house. My grandfather was a huge admirer of this grape variety. We love it because it feels like home, because it reminds me of Sundays and togetherness.

Yet, after years of studying wine, it surprised me even more. Somehow, I’ve grown to appreciate it even further. There is truly nothing like it in Italy or anywhere else in the world. Even today, when we let sommeliers taste it, they are astonished.
This rare and precious grape has been planted in Spain, Australia, Argentina, and both the Old and New Worlds. However, it only reaches its full potential on the rolling hills of the Marche region. Long live Lacrima di Morro d’Alba!

Luigi Giusti

The rolling hills of the Marche region provide an ideal setting for Luigi Giusti’s vineyards, which enjoy south-facing exposure. The winery follows low environmental impact practices, minimising the use of chemicals and adhering to organic standards. Grape yields are kept low through careful pruning and bunch thinning, ensuring exceptional quality.

The harvest is carried out manually at optimal ripeness, with grapes placed in small crates and brought immediately to the cellar, situated among the vineyards. Luigi Giusti has long championed the Lacrima di Morro d’Alba grape, a historic variety that once faced extinction but now thrives as a signature wine of the Marche. The DOC regulations require that all vinification and bottling occur within the six municipalities of the province of Ancona authorised for this designation.

Lacrima di Morro d’Alba

Lacrima di Morro d’Alba is a true treasure of the Marche region, celebrated as one of Italy’s most captivating wines. Its name, “Lacrima” (tear), reflects the grape’s unique tendency to burst, as if shedding tears. The wine’s deep connection to its origins is underscored by its strict cultivation in Morro d’Alba, a picturesque village nestled between the hills of Senigallia and Jesi.
Its bouquet enchants with floral notes of lavender, roses, and violets, balanced by heavier aromas of stewed strawberries. On the palate, Lacrima offers a complex profile, with flavours reminiscent of blueberry brioche and sweet spices. While often mid-bodied, dry, and tannic, it can also be crafted into sweet passito or sparkling styles, demonstrating its versatility and intrigue.
