With more than a century of history and tradition, Azienda Agricola Kurtin , has recently had a new start with Ulisse Bellesso, Alessio Kurtin and Isacco Curtarello. New ambitions for the future, always in the constant search for improvement while maintaining its local identity. Kurtin can use the Collio DOP denomination on their wines which is one of the best area of production for international grape varieties as Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. However in this area white grapes have found their best growing area, as the native Ribolla Gialla and Friulano Grape.
Friulano
The grape excels in the hills of Collio and Friuli Colli Orientali in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. It was known as Tocai Friulano until 2007, when the European Union, after a long debate, forced Italy to relinquish the Tocai name to avoid confusion with Tokaj from Hungary; Friulano is a totally different wine from the Hungarian Tocai which is made by Frumint grapes. Wines made with Friulano boast full-bodied finesse and feature aromas and flavors of pear and almond. While it’s fresh, it has milder acidity than many other white grapes. Some producers ferment and age in wood to add complexity. Also called Sauvignonasse, this lean, dry, herbal white is often mistaken for Sauvignon Blanc.
