Brunello di Montalcino riserva DOCG 2012, why we love it and why you'll love it too

Brunello is not transformed into Riserva. It is destined to be Riserva from the very start, beginning with the meticulous selection of grapes.
The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012 by Donatella Cinelli Colombini is crafted exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown at Casato Prime Donne, a 40-hectare property with 17 hectares of vineyards. Nestled on the cooler northern slopes of Montalcino, this area benefits from slower and more consistent grape ripening. The nutrient-poor soils further enhance the intensity and complexity of the wines.

Only produced in exceptional vintages, this Brunello Riserva represents the pinnacle of the winery’s craft and is the wine for which the estate is celebrated worldwide.

Donatella Cinelli Colombini

Donatella Cinelli Colombini is the visionary behind Casato Prime Donne, the first Italian winery entirely staffed by women. Known internationally for producing high-quality Brunello wines, the estate consists of Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda. Both are surrounded by pristine, organically cultivated nature, offering visitors a chance to experience Tuscany’s rich history. Donatella, who left her family’s estate, started her own project with vineyards and farmhouses in need of care. She received Brunello wine but lacked a cellar master to manage it. When she asked the Enology school in Siena for a female cellar master, they offered several candidates—no winery had employed them. Recognising the opportunity to challenge gender discrimination, Donatella proved that crafting fine wines depends on passion and talent, not physical strength.

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy‘s most famous and prestigious wines and the first ever DOCG was granted here in July 1980, alongside Piedmont‘s Barolo. All Brunello di Montalcino wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes and winemaking methods involve long aging. Thanks to its extraordinary quality and because it is apt for a very long ageing, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is one of the finest red wines in the world.
