Bombino Bianco "Il Quadrello", Why we love it and why you’ll love it too!
If summer had a wine, it would be Bombino Bianco “Il Quadrello.”
The perfect ally to beat the heat, a true friend who refreshes you when you need it most.
There’s a fresh burst of white flowers and ripe fruit as soon as you lift the glass.
Then comes that little almond note at the end — a small reminder that this grape has real character.
It’s light, fresh, and honest, just like Marica and Sergio, the incredible people behind Cantina La Marchesa. Every time we visit them, it feels like coming home. Their warmth and passion shine through in everything they do. We’re lucky to know them and even luckier to share their wines.
Simple moments, good friends, and a chilled bottle of “Il Quadrello.” Sometimes, that’s really all you need.
Cantina La Marchesa
Cantina La Marchesa was founded 10 years ago by Marika and Sergio, two passionate wine lovers who turned their dream into reality. Located in Lucera, in northern Puglia, the winery oversees 14 hectares of vineyards situated just 300 metres from the cellar. This close proximity allows for a fast, gentle harvest that protects the aromatic integrity of the grapes.
The winery is deeply rooted in tradition and works exclusively with native Puglian varieties such as Nero di Troia and Bombino Bianco. Every step of the production is carried out by hand, by skilled and experienced workers who share the same values.
In spring, excess leaves are carefully removed to let the warm southern sun ripen the fruit. Later, the vines are pruned to leave only the best clusters, ensuring quality over quantity.
Marika and Sergio strongly believe that great wine starts in the vineyard. From growing the grapes to bottling the wine, they personally oversee every stage of the process. At Cantina La Marchesa, passion and hard work are at the heart of every bottle.
Bombino Bianco
Bombino Bianco is a key white grape variety grown mainly in southeastern Italy.
Historically used for bulk production, it is valued more for its generous yields than for its aromatic intensity.
Its nickname, Pagadebit (“the debt payer”), reflects this characteristic.
For years, Bombino Bianco was confused with other varieties, especially Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.
However, recent studies have clarified its identity, revealing unique traits that are gaining attention vintage after vintage.
Today, wines made from Bombino Bianco are increasingly appreciated for their freshness, character, and surprising complexity.
