Barolo DOCG Gabutti 2017 – Sordo

£47.90

A wine of remarkable longevity, featuring the classic garnet color typical of Barolo, never overly intense but beautifully toned and stable over time. Aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Floral aromas with hints of fresh fruit and sweet spices. On the palate, it’s very savoury, with good structure, and a well-balanced presence of acids and tannins. The tannins are significant yet tend to be sweet. After proper aging, this wine develops into something with great finesse, pronounced minerality, and impressive character. Pairs perfectly with roasts and game.

Barolo DOCG Gabutti 2017, Why We Love It and Why You'll Too

Barolo is always Barolo—there’s a reason they call it the King of wines and the wine of Kings.
There was six of us at the tasting, with Paola, representing the fourth generation of the family. Long story short, we tasted the crus Ravera, Parussi, Perno, Monprivato, and Gabutti. It was impossible to reach a consensus. We all preferred a different cru. Among the thousand beautiful nuances, in my personal opinion, Barolo DOCG Gabutti 2017 stood out for its complexity and elegance. However, there was one thing everyone agreed on: Sordo makes outstanding wines!

Barolo

Piedmont’s most famous red wine is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes.
The famous “tar and roses” aroma, a bright ruby color (which fades to garnet over time), firm tannins, elevated acidity, and relatively high alcohol, define the classic Barolo style.
To earn the name Barolo, the wines must undergo at least 38 months aging prior to commercial release, of which 18 must be spent in barrel (the remainder in bottle). For the added designation of riserva, the total aging time increases to 62 months. As the tannins soften over time, the complexity shows through with hints of earth, truffles and dark chocolate.

SORDO

For four generations, in the heart of Barolo, the family has dedicated themselves to the art of winemaking. Each generation has built upon the knowledge and traditions of their ancestors, contributing to the creation of exceptional wines that reflect the unique characteristics of this renowned region. With a deep respect for the land and a commitment to quality, they accentuate the excellence of a territory steeped in winemaking tradition.
