With a family tradition of growing and making wine that dates back hundreds of years, Bodegas D. Mateos is one of the latest rediscoveries in Rioja, embodying the true character of this region in its wines. Mateo Ruiz, who has been heading up this project since the winery was constructed in the year 2000, amazes and offers great wines with their own distinctive personality and character, with Rioja Baja and Aldeanueva de Ebro as the hallmarks of their identity.

Grenache

Grenache, also known as Garnacha in Spain, is a red grape variety with a long history. It is widely planted around the world and thrives in warm, dry conditions. The grape’s versatility allows it to adapt to different climates and soil types.
Grenache wines are known for their red fruit flavours, such as cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, accompanied by herbal and spicy notes. They often exhibit a rich and full-bodied nature, with relatively high alcohol content.
This grape is frequently used in blends, especially in the southern Rhône Valley of France, where it is a key component in popular blends like Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It pairs well with other varieties like Syrah to create complex and balanced wines.
Grenache is also bottled as a single varietal wine, particularly in regions where it is the dominant grape variety, such as certain areas of Spain.
Additionally, it’s a popular choice for rosé wine production, contributing to vibrant and fruity rosés, especially in regions like Provence, France.
