Orcia DOC Cenerentola 2016 – Cinelli Colombini

£33.00

The Orcia DOC Cenerentola truly lives up to its name, representing a “Cinderella” among the wines from the Orcia appellation in Tuscany. This wine blends Sangiovese with the rare Foglia Tonda grape, a variety almost forgotten over time.
Currently, fewer than 20 hectares of Foglia Tonda are cultivated in southern Tuscany.
It boasts rich, intense character with aromas of berries, plums, and dark chocolate. The full body is complemented by velvety tannins, leading to a vibrant and well-balanced finish.
Enjoy it now or cellar it until 2026.

Orcia DOC Cenerentola 2016, why we love it and why you'll love it too

Orcia DOC Cenerentola 2016 is a wine we were never meant to drink. Its existence is nothing short of a miracle, representing a fascinating chapter in Tuscany’s wine history. Twice forgotten and twice brought back to life, this extraordinary wine owes its revival to dedicated winemakers, especially Donatella Cinelli Colombini.
With its rich, full-bodied taste and unique character, it’s a rare gem, even for seasoned professionals.
Believe me, this is a wine of divine quality!

Donatella Cinelli Colombini

Donatella Cinelli Colombini is the visionary behind Casato Prime Donne, the first Italian winery entirely staffed by women. Known internationally for producing high-quality Brunello wines, the estate consists of Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino and Fattoria del Colle in Trequanda. Both are surrounded by pristine, organically cultivated nature, offering visitors a chance to experience Tuscany’s rich history. Donatella, who left her family’s estate, started her own project with vineyards and farmhouses in need of care. She received Brunello wine but lacked a cellar master to manage it. When she asked the Enology school in Siena for a female cellar master, they offered several candidates—no winery had employed them. Recognising the opportunity to challenge gender discrimination, Donatella proved that crafting fine wines depends on passion and talent, not physical strength.

Orcia DOC, Foglia Tonda

Orcia DOC is a hidden gem in Tuscany, located in the southeast of this iconic Italian region. Introduced in 2000, it is one of the newest DOCs in the area, though it carries the potential to rival the prestige of Chianti.

Foglia Tonda, an Italian red grape variety, has a fascinating history of being twice forgotten and twice rediscovered. Its name, meaning “round leaf,” reflects its unique appearance. However, it’s the grape’s deep pigmentation and ability to enhance Sangiovese blends that make it highly prized. With fewer than 20 hectares cultivated today, this rare grape is being championed by winemakers like Donatella Cinelli Colombini.
