Lacrima Rose di Settembre IGT 2022 – Luigi Giusti
£18.40
This wine is the result of the “Vigneto di Bozz,” a 2-hectare vineyard where we harvest the grapes in early September. Made from 100% Lacrima grapes, we produce a total of 3,000 bottles. The grapes are gently and directly pressed to limit color extraction.
It has an intense pink color with violet reflections and exudes aromas of wild rose and violets. On the palate, it offers a fresh and enjoyable taste. There is a good aromatic complexity that lingers with notes of almonds and wild berries in the finish.

During harvest, grapes are carefully selected based on their level of ripeness. They are hand-picked and placed in small crates, then promptly transported to the cellar, conveniently situated amidst the vineyards. The winery has long been dedicated to vinifying the grapes of the ancient indigenous Lacrima di Morro d’Alba vine, which was once at risk of disappearing but now represents an exceptional characteristic of the Marche region. The production guidelines of this DOC mandate that vinification and bottling operations must take place within the authorised territory, encompassing six small municipalities in the Province of Ancona.
Lacrima di Morro d’Alba
Lacrima di Morro d’Alba is a true gem of winemaking in the Marche region, known for its intriguing and enigmatic character, making it one of Italy’s most captivating wines. It is proudly referred to by its full name, which includes the reference to the “city” because it is exclusively grown in Morro d’Alba, a charming village nestled in the rolling hills of the province of Ancona between Senigallia and Jesi, the birthplace of this grape variety.
The name “Lacrima” translates to “tear,” and one possible explanation for this curious name is that the berries have a tendency to burst, appearing as if they are “shedding tears.”
This wine’s enchanting floral bouquet evokes the aromas of lavender, roses, and violets, accompanied by deeper notes of stewed strawberries. Equally impressive are the flavours, reminiscent of blueberry brioche with a touch of vanilla and a hint of sweet spice. While typically medium-bodied, dry, and relatively tannic, Lacrima di Morro d’Alba can also be produced in a sweet passito style, as well as a fascinating sparkling wine.
